Highs reached 85 degrees at O’Hare and 86 degrees at Midway Tuesday afternoon, more typical of July and 20 degrees above normal. It marks the warmest temperatures here since September 12th, when the high reached 86 degrees.
Weather history reveals that an 85 degree or warmer temperature has occurred by April 30th in just 30 years out of a possible 142 (since 1871); 21% of the years; or about 1 year out of 5. Warmth will continue one more day before cooler and wetter weather returns to the area later this week.
