Powerful winds create severe blowing snow and dangerouly low wind chills.

Howling northwest winds are continuing to create ground blizzard conditions across much of the area. Temperatures have fallen to the single digits across much of northern Illinois, with wind chill readings already hovering near minus 20 degrees over northwest and north central Illinois. Visibilities at many rural locations are reported at 1/4 mile or less.

O’Hare airport………………. 44 mph

Midway airport……………..  39 mph

  1. Almost all North and South roadways in Dekalb and Boone County’s closed Some with ditched vehicles and stranded motorists. Blowing wind and drifting on roads terrible out here with wind over 50 MPH. Stay indoors if at all possible till later in the morning.
