Sunshine and persistent southwest winds this past week kept temperatures well above normal. Since Sunday, the area has received 89 percent of possible sunshine. Through the first 11 days of the month, October, 2013 is running 7.7 degrees above normal. Clouds are expected to dominate area skies much of Saturday, but modest southwest winds, and a mild start will provide the area one more day of above normal temps. An afternoon cold frontal passage will signal a turn toward normal mid-October temperatures. High temps may spike at or above the 70-degree mark on Tuesday, otherwise readings are expected to run closer to the 64-degree normal. A more significant surge of cold air is forecast to arrive midweek, with daytime temps struggling to reach 50 degrees by Friday. Nighttime lows are expected to dip to the 30s.
