Thursday will bring another round of late-season warmth and humidity to the Chicago area with scattered showers and thunderstorms this morning. Temperatures will climb into the steamy upper 80s this afternoon providing ample fuel for another round of thunderstorms later today and tonight as a cold front approaches. The Storm Prediction Center has outlooked areas just to the west of Chicago for the possibility of severe thunderstorms.
Last night thunderstorms hit the area bringing some gusty winds, hail, heavy rainfall and flash flooding. More heavy rain is also possible raising the specter of additional flooding. Localized downpours of 3 to 4 inches hit central and southern portions of the Chicago area last night including the Indiana suburbs causing major flooding problems of streets, viaducts and basements. The heavy rain resulted in some closures of the Chicago Expressway system including the Circle Interchange in the Loop.
