Jennifer Maslan Schroeder sends us this spectacular shot of mammatus clouds on the underside of the anvil of some of last evening’s vigorous thunderstorms which raced across sections of northern Wisconsin. The formation is often an indicator of turbulence.
And storm chaser Brad Hruza sends us this remarkable shot taken early this morning of a anvil-topped cumulonimbus—or “thunderhead”—which Brad noticed to his south. There are mammatus on the underside of this cloud’s anvil with the beautiful reddish/orange hues often referred to as “alpenglow” and seen as the rising sun illuminates this towering cloud.
Jake Hill shared this shot of a rainbow in DeKalb appearing after a brief shower Wednesday evening.
