Heavy rains bypass Chicago for now

Waves of showers and a lightning prolific thunderstorms have been roaming across northwest Illinois and southern Wisconsin today, clipping Chicago’s northern suburbs at times.   Rainfall totals have been impressive with 2.66″ in Dubuque, Iowa and 2.25″ in Burlington, Wisconsin.   In Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, three separate hail producing thunderstorms occurred today along with 1.37″ of rain.   In Browsville, Wisconsin, two people were injured when they were struck by lightning.  Brownsville is near Fond Du Lac.

 

A few widely scattered showers or thunderstorms will be possible this evening across the Chicago area, although coverage will be limited to less than 20%.   After Midnight, rain chances increase significantly again as a cluster of thunderstorms that develops in Iowa is expected to ride eastward into northern Illinois.
