Thunderstorms erupt after season's first 70-degree day

Penny size hail was reported in Minooka in  Kendall County at 10:57 pm

Pea size hail reported in the Bolingbrook area at 11:04 pm

Wind gust to 48 mph at O’Hare International Airport at 10:58 pm.

A band of strong thunderstorms is sweeping across the Chicago Metro area late this Saturday. The storms, while not severe are producing small hail, gusty winds and brief heavy downpours. At Aurora 1/2 inch diameter hail and wind gusts to 58 mph were reported around 10:35 pm.  A wind gust to 51 mp hit the Mendota area shortly after 10 pm. Thunderstorms have been a no-show in the Chicago area during this very chilly spring, but they have arrived this evening in the wake of the season’s first 70-degree day.

 

Small hail and gusty winds can be expected in the Chicago Metro area as these storms move through.
