April chill will follow mildness of late March

A chilly March that averaged more than 5 degrees below normal ended on a springlike note this weekend with back-to-back highs of 59 degrees at O’Hare.

The late-month temperature reversal won’t continue, as a cold front supplies a strong surge of cold air. Temperatures will drop to late-February levels, with highs struggling to reach 40 degrees Monday and Tuesday.

The mercury will slowly migrate back to more seasonable levels by the end of the week as an approaching storm system delivers some milder air along with an increasing threat of showers and thunderstorms.
