A mild weekend in store for the Chicago area

While snowstorms rage along the East Coast, high pressure across the Midwest will bring mild weather conditions to the Chicago area. Saturday is expected to be the better day this weekend, with ample sunshine, light winds and thawing temperatures.

Satellite imagery on Friday indicated that across northeast Illinois, areas along and north of U.S. Highway 34 are covered in snow, while areas to the south are bare. Saturday temps are forecast to range from the mid-30s in the northern parts to the lower 40s in the southern section. Conditions are expected to deteriorate Sunday with the approach of low pressure, but Chicago will be on the mild side of this system. Gusty winds are forecast to boost temps into the 40s as rain and perhaps a few thunderstorms spread over the area.
