The Chicago National Weather Service Office has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Lake and McHenry counties this afternoon and tonight. Rain mixed with sleet and snow this afternoon is expected to change over to accumulating snow later this afternoon/evening as winds shift to the north-northeast ushering in colder air.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM THIS AFTERNOON
TO 9 PM CST THIS EVENING...FOR MCHENRY AND LAKE COUNTIES IN ILLINOIS
INCLUDING THE CITIES OF...WOODSTOCK...WAUKEGAN
...FREEZING RAIN ADVISORY EXPIRED AT 10 AM CST THIS MORNING
* TIMING...A MIX OF LIGHT RAIN...SNOW AND SLEET ARE POSSIBLE
THROUGH EARLY AFTERNOON. HOWEVER...MORE SUBSTANTIAL PRECIPITATION
IN THE FORM OF SNOW...IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP BY MID AFTERNOON IN
TIME FOR THE EVENING RUSH. THE SNOW WILL CONTINUE...MODERATE TO
HEAVY AT TIMES THROUGH THE EARLY EVENING...BEFORE TAPERING OFF.
* ACCUMULATION...SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 2 TO 4 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE
WITH SOME ISOLATED HIGHER AMOUNTS.
* OTHER IMPACTS...THE THREAT FOR A PERIOD OF HEAVY SNOW COULD
RESULT IN REDUCED VISIBILITIES UNDER A MILE AT TIMES AND RAPID
ACCUMULATION ON AREA ROADS.
