A Winter Weather Advisory (for snow and hazardous driving conditions) remains in effect for Illinois counties adjacent to Lake Michigan (Lake and Cook Counties) until noon and for Lake and Porter Counties in Indiana until 6PM this evening.
The center of the current low pressure system will move east-southeast through central Illinois this afternoon into southern Indiana by this evening. The associated band of snow has diminished considerably this forenoon. As the low center passes to our south, winds over northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana are generally out of the northeast, so lake-enhanced snow showers could continue in areas close to Lake Michigan.
As the low pressure center approaches Indiana this afternoon, winds will become northerly – finally shifting northwest later this afternoon and evening as the low moves into Indiana. With the wind trajectory becoming less and less off-water and more over land, lake-enhanced snow will gradually diminish – ending any further accumulation in Illinois by early afternoon and finally this evening in northwest Indiana.
