New snow in the Rockford area has totaled 0.7 inches as measured this evening at WREX-TV

Light snow was falling across the Chicago Metro area shortly before midnight as the city's latest snow event gets underway. The snow will be quite light at first, but gradually get heavier during the night. Visibilities will be dropping below 1 mile in most area and down to 1/2 mile or less as the snow intensifies. With temperature well below freezing, untreated road surfaces will quickly become snow covered and slippery.
At 11pm most visibilities in the Chicago area were between 1 and 2 miles, except at Midway Airport where it had dropped to 3/4 mile. An early snowfall report from Belvidere indicates that 0.4 inches of snow has accumulated there and roads are becoming snow covered.
