Clouds are lowering and thickening across the Chicago area this evening, in advance of the arrival of a Clipper system that is expected to bring the city its biggest snowfall to date of this anemic 2012-13 snow season. The snow is expected to begin by midnight and continue into Saturday with 1-3 inches of accumulation possible with as much as 4 inches in possible in some areas. With area temperatures hovering between 10 and 15 degrees, roads should become quite slick once the snow begins. As of 8pm snow had just begun in the Rockford area.
