While Chicago basks in the warm sector of a powerful January storm system today, winter is lurking just around the corner.   A swath of heavy snow is expected to fall the tonight and tomorrow across portions of northwest Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin and Upper Michigan.  Chicago will be clipped by the snow Wednesday afternoon and evening as this storm system departs.  Snowfall totals here will be minor, ranging from little of no accumulation south to up to two inches 40 miles northwest of the Loop.

Long distance travelers should be aware that there will be some tough sledding north and west of Chicago on interstates 80, 90, 94 & 39.

BELOW:  Winter Storm Warnings and Watches have been posted for the region anticipating the heaviest snow.
