Winter weather advisories issued for the Chicago Metro area for an icy mix of precipitation tonight- Follow this developing situation on the Chicago Weather Center Severe Weather Blog this evening

A storm system moving through the Ohio Valley will spread precipitation across the Chicago Metro area this evening and tonight. Temperatures are dropping as colder air moves in with the mercury already at or below 32 degrees over northwest portion of the area from western Lake County and McHenry County southwest toward the Quad Cities. Freezing rain is being reported in DeKalb with a temperature of 31 degrees and sleet has been reported at both Rockford and Fox Lake. Snow, sleet and freezing rain will transition to snow west and north of Chicago with 1 to locally 3 inches of accumulation possible, while in the city rain will transition to sleet and freezing rain as temperatures continue to fall. The precipitation will eventually turn to snow with up to an inch possible. South and east of the city the precipitation will begin as rain gradually freezing and mixing with sleet as temperatures drop below freezing later tonight. The National Weather Service has issued winter weather advisories for the entire Metro area.
