Records are falling as Chicago’s mild and relatively snow-free winter presses on. Wednesday becomes the city’s 320th consecutive day without at least a 1-inch snow, surpassing by one day the previous consecutive stretch logged in 1940.
And that record will extend a few additional days because no snow of consequence lies in Chicago’s immediate future. The city’s season-to-date snowfall as logged at O’Hare International Airport stands at 1.3 inches, a value that places this winter in a tie with 1889-90 as Chicago’s most snow-deprived start to a snow season.
Colder air arrives in the area by Sunday, but not until much higher temperatures and a widespread soaking rain surge across the city from Thursday into Friday. Computer rainfall estimate: 1.40 inches.
