Tom Skilling's latest look at the current weather situation in Chicago and developing winter storm that will affect areas south and east of Chicago

Lake effect snows have whitened parts of Chicago area. 1″ fell earlier today at Rogers Park & Morton Grove, Northbrook 0.9″ with 0.5″ down her at WGN-TV (NW side not far from Wrigleyville). Only a trace has fallen Tuesday at Midway with 0.1″ reported at O’Hare bringing the official site’s seasonal total to 0.4—still the lowest snow tally so late in a snow season in the 69 years since 1943.
Major winter storm developing in the Gulf states and headed northeastward has produced 15 twisters across Gulf States. That region could become the worst Christmas tornado outbreak since 29 twisters touched down in 1982.
A full-blown blizzard is targeting areas downstate in IL & IN Wed/Wed nite. Huge snows and 50+ mph gusts are likely shut travel across sections of downstate IL & IN as well as OH, PA & NY down.
In Chicago gusty NE winds and some flurries will occur Wed beneath the storm’s northern flank.
