Mild weather peaks over Thanksgiving

High temperatures the next 5 days should average nearly 14 degrees above normal – peaking on Thanksgiving Day! Perhaps we’re a bit generous, but if the calendar can hold off long enough for us to hit 63 degrees Thursday, it will mark the warmest Thanksgiving here since the record Thanksgiving high of 69 degrees was set back in 1966!

During the next few days, the west to east-flowing upper air jet stream will steer maritime-origin air across the Rockies into the plains and Midwest where it will be intercepted by a low-level warm southwest wind that will end up producing Chicago-area high temperatures some 10 to perhaps as much as 20-degrees above seasonal normals. Any rainfall will be slight with perhaps a few sprinkles or brief light showers later Monday night into Tuesday and again Thursday night as colder air finally breaks the mild spell.
