Early morning storms produce 60 to 70mph winds

Severe thunderstorms rolled through the Chicago area between 5AM and 8AM this morning producing wind gusts between 50mph and 70mph.  The most significant tree and power line damage is being reported where gusts topped 65mph.

While showers and a few thunderstorms are still possible this afternoon, the main severe weather threat has shifted south of Chicago for today.  Tonight may be a different story active thunderstorms are possible once again as a warm front approaches northeast Illinois.
