Chicago gets a mild day before chill moves in

By Meteorologist Paul Dailey

With high pressure passing overhead and southwest winds picking up during the day Thursday, Chicago-area temperatures will rise well into the 40s in the afternoon. However the leading edge of Arctic high pressure will be sinking south across Wisconsin and cross the Illinois state line around sunrise Friday.

Winds will shift to the north and increase, gusting to 30 mph as the cold air flows into the area Friday morning. The day's highest temperatures will be recorded early and readings will fall through the 20s during the day. Snow showers are likely to develop with accumulations possible especially in areas immediately adjacent to Lake Michigan.
