Temperatures moderate today following the coldest morning of the season

Fresh snowcover and partial clearing overnight combined to produce Chicago's coldest temperatures of the 2011-2012 season.  The temperature at O'Hare Int'l Airport bottomed out at 5 degrees above zero, easily surpassing the previous cold mark for the season of 12 degrees on December 10th 2011.

Milder air will be returning to the metro area this afternoon on the heels of increasing south winds.  Highs are expected to top off in the upper 20s.  Wind chill, or "feels like" temperatures will remain in the teens today and tonight.
