Snow expected to being in most areas between 8AM and 10AM

UPDATE:10:01AM  Light snow is being reported across most of the Chicago area at this hour.  A few narrow bands of moderate to heavy are showing up over some southwest suburbs.   Snow and fog is reducing the visibility down to 1/4 of a mile in Romeoville at 9:56AM.

UPDATE: 9:25AM: Snow has started to fall at both O'Hare and Midway. The first flakes flew at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport at 9:03AM.  Airport operations at both O'Hare and Midway are not expected to be seriously impacted until later this afternoon.

UPDATE: 9:15AM:  Snow has been falling in Joliet for around an hour, but there isn't much to show for it.  Only a dusting thus far.  Snow intensity will pick up this afternoon.

Moderate snow is being reported downstate in Champaign and Decatur Illinois.  Snow intensity will increase here in Chicago late this morning and into the afternoon.

UPDATE 8:15AM:  Snow continues to slowly overspread the Chicago area this morning from west to east.  As of 8:30AM, a steady light snow was underway west of the Tri-state tollway.  East of I-294, only flurries were occurring.  Snow is expected to overspread the entire region, reaching downtown Chicago by 10AM. 

Chicago' airports are running smoothly considering the most significant snow of the season to date is underway.  Very few cancellations and delays are being reported as of 8:15AM.  Airport operations will be affected later today as the snow begins to accumulate.

7:00AM:  As of 7:00AM, isolated pockets of snow have been reported over some west and southwest suburbs.   The main event, or a steady persistent snow, is not expected to begin until between 8AM and 10AM.

Brief 5 to 10 minute snow showers were reported in Joliet and Oswego at 6:15AM.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect today and tonight for most of the area including the City of Chicago.  A Winter Storm Warning is posted for Porter, La Porte, St. Joseph and Berrien counties in Michigan and Indiana where lake effect snow will enhance system snow. 

Overnight, there has been little or no change to the snowfall forecast.  Most locations can expect 3 to 6 inches of snow on the ground by 7AM Friday morning.  A few isolated locations may see up to 7", but the majority of the region should fall within the 3" to 6" window.
