Overnight rainfall elevates 2011 to city's 2nd wettest year

Overnight rainfall totaled an official 0.12 inches at O'Hare International Airport bringing the precipitation total for the year to 49.41 inches.  This makes 2011 the city's second wettest year on record, second only to 2008 that produced 50.86 inches of precipitation.  Chicago's weather records date back 141 years to 1871.

Barring an unexpected significant rain or snowstorm in the remaining days of 2011, this year will enter the record books as the city's second wettest.
