After the Tribune went to press, aided by southerly winds, temperatures Wednesday evening gradually warmed - peaking at 31 degrees just before midnight - a degree warmer than the afternoon high. This single degree was enough to elevate Wednesday's average temperature a degree above normal. So the consecutive days with above normal temperatures continued - and with Thursday's high of 48 and Friday and Saturday expected to be well above normal, December 2011 should end on a streak of 21 days with above normal temperatures.
Sharply colder Sunday
Rain should end later Friday afternoon, but winds are expected to shift southwesterly overnight and strengthen - gusting over 40 mph Saturday - boosting temperatures close to 50-degrees. However a strong cold front is forecast to move through Saturday night followed by cold arctic high pressure. Readings will fall through the 30s New Years Day, dropping into the teens Sunday night. Temperatures will probably fail to warm out of the 20s Monday and Tuesday with wind chills in the single digits and teens.
