At least ten states in the Northeast set records for snowfall this past weekend. New York City's Central Park shattered their October snowfall record with 2.9". It is the first time in the month of October Central Park has ever received an inch of snow or more since record keeping began in 1869. Both major airports in NYC (LaGuardia and JFK) set records for October with at least 1.5" of snow. That was a dusting compared to some of the snowfall totals in Massachusetts. 30.8" of snow fell in Plainfield, Massachusetts.

The visible satellite image above was taken on Sunday and shows the center of the storm moving off the coast of New England. The white in the lower left-hand portion of the frame is snow on the ground.
The 6-10 day outlook from the Climate Prediction Center seems to indicate we have now worries about early season snow here. The forecast covers the period of November 5-9 and shows Chicago and much of the eastern half of the country with a fairly high probability of above average temperatures.
