Two weather disturbances will be merging over the mid-Atlantic region by early Wednesday, combining warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico with cold autumnal air from the north. The result will be a rapid deepening of low pressure that will have a notable influence on Chicago's midweek weather. As this scenario begins to play out Tuesday, northwest winds will become north and increase to 10-20 mph in the afternoon. This flow will strengthen Wednesday and encourage the development of lake-effect showers. Showers may move into northwest Indiana and portions of northeast Illinois by daybreak Wednesday and will continue to enhance rainfall amounts into Thursday as lighter, more widespread rain spreads north and west into northern Illinois and eastern Wisconsin.
Damp, raw conditions and temperatures in the 40s will provide a November-like feel to our weather through Thursday. Conditions are expected to quickly improve heading into the weekend.
