Cold front off to the east - sunny day in store for Chicago

The cold front that triggered a band of showers and thunderstorms that generally produced a quarter to a half-inch of rain over the Chicago area between 11PM and 2AM last night is now moving into northern Ohio and the southern portions of Indiana and Illinois. Following the front, cooler and rather weak high pressure will temporarily build into the Midwest today.

Although there was a pretty wide range in low temperatures early this morning - from 34 degrees at Rochelle to 51 degrees at Northerly Island, for the most part readings started out in the low to mid 40s. Mostly sunny skies should prevail today and winds will gradually shift from the northwest this morning to west and finally southwest later this afternoon. High temperatures will be about 3 to 5 degrees cooler than yesterday's official high of 68 degrees at O'Hare, but still 3 to 5 degrees above the normal high of 59 degrees for this date.
