Enough already!!!! Today will be the sixth day in a row with rain. The unusually stubborn "cut-off low" has barely budgee a bit for nearly a week. For the year, we have 40.84" of precipitation which is more than a foot above average.
So if you are looking to find relief from the rain, here is a list of the top five driest places on earth according to ouramazingplanet.com:
1. Dry Valleys, Antarctica-This is the largest ice-free region on the continent. Winds descending off higher terrain can reach up to 200 mph and evaporate all the water, ice and snow in their way.
2. Arica, Chile-The driest city on earth, despite high humidity and cloud cover the moisture above rarely makes it to the ground. Parts of the nearby Atacama Desert have not seen rain in more than 500 years.
3. Al-Kufrah, Libya-This is the driest spot in all of Africa. Only .0338 inches of rain per year but fortunately natural underground springs supply water for people and animals.
4. Aswan, Egypt-Winds of up to 100 mph blow sand frequently. Stone quarries here helped furnish some of the stones for the pyramids in Egypt.
5. Luxor, Egypt-Rare raindrops that try to fall hear are evaporated quickly by the bone dry air. Temperatures easily reach 100° or more during the summer months.
