Southwesterly winds will pick up this afternoon with fair-weather cumulus clouds dotting the skies as temperatures warm into the mid to upper 80s. Earlier this morning a weak upper-level disturbance moved across the area producing scattered low and mid-level clouds along with a significant amount of high ice-crystal cirrus. This impulse moved on southeast, however cirrus should begin to increase later today and overnight as a cold front approaches from the northwest.
Slight chance of showers early Tuesday
The cold front is forecast to move through northeast Illinois close to sunrise Tuesday preceded and accompanied by some cloudiness and perhaps a narrow band of showers - maybe even some thunder. But most of the moisture and strong dynamics with this front look to be far to our north. A turn to much colder begins Tuesday and intensifies as the week wears on - peaking on Thursday
